First edition. First edition. Signed by Noah H. Rose, J. Marvin Hunter, and Warren Hunter. Limited to 300 copies, of which this is copy 4. Decorated cloth, xi [3], 236 pp. plates, portraits, 31 cm., half-title, illustrated end papers, illustrated double title page, errata slip missing from this copy. Laid-in to this copy is a postcard dated May 2, 1951 from Rose to Brininstool in which Rose advises of the difficulties they were having getting the book printed. On the verso of the front free fly leaf is affixed a lengthy newspaper article dated January 25, 1952, advising of the death of Rose. Affixed to the dedication page is a typed letter dated February 3, 1952 to Brininstool on Frontier Times Museum stationery and signed in ink by J. Marvin Hunter, Sr. The letter provides an interesting observation and commentary about Noah Rose, his life and contributions. Several corrections in ink to a few portions of the text made by Hunter, Rose, or Brininstool, which make some minor corrections to the text. Through Hunter's biographical descriptions and the reproduction of Rose's incredible collection of rare photographs of outlaws and gunmen, they've collaborated in the production of one of the most important works of the often violent development of the West. A must for any collection on gunfighters and lawmen. Highly recommended. A fine bright copy in the elusive internally reinforced dust jacket which is price-clipped and has light wear to the spine ends, corners and extremities with nicks and small chips.
