A Very Good Copy. Startling Stories was a science fiction and fantasy pulp magazine that was published from 1939-1955. Mort Weisinger was the magazine's first editor, followed by Oscar J. Friend in 1941, Sam Merwin, Jr. in 1945, and lastly Samuel Mines in 1951. Artist Earle Bergey illustrated the cover of almost every issue from 1940-1952. Although the original run of Startling Stories ceased publication in 1955, there have been multiple revivals of the magazine since then. Online resources note February 2021 as being the latest revival under John Gregory Betancourt's Wildside Press. The May 1948 issue. The following are in this issue: a complete novel, "The Mask of Circe," by Henry Kuttner; a complete novelette, "No Escape from Destiny," by Arthur Leo Zagat; six short stories, "The Simple Life" by Ray Cummings, "The House of Rising Winds" by Frank Belknap Long, "The Seekers" by Robert Moore Williams, "Journey" by George O. Smith, "The Microscopic Giants" by Paul Ernst" and "After the Atom" by John Russell Fearn; and two special features, "The Ether Vibrates" by The Editor and "Science Fiction Fan Publications" [a review].
