Manuscript / Paper Collectible
No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Double-sided hand-written page of minutes of the General Meeting the Auckland Gymnastics club, May 30, 1867. Signed as 'Confirmed, C Heaphy'. Major Von Tempsky was in the chair, and the minutes cover a discussion on membership and rental of the premises, plus a proposal from Heaphy that "an entertainment should be given in the Gymnasium on Saturday the 8th June to be if possible under the patronage of his Excellency Sir George Grey K.G.B." THe Auckland Gymnastics Club was formed in 1866 with Von Tempsky in the chair. He was in Auckland after the disbanding of his Forest Rangers in mid 1866 and before taking part in the fighting in Taranaki where he was killed in 1868. Heaphy had been awarded the VC in February of that year and was currently Auckland's provincial surveyor and about to embark on a parliamentary career. 18 x 23 cm. An extremely interesting item with many links to important NZ history. VC winner signatures, particularly Heaphy, are particulary hard to come by.
