/Ethel Hays, illustrator. (illustrator). CONDITION: Good; no names or other marks, boards darkening but clean (one 1/8" spot), with almost no rubbing or scratching, corners bumped and rubbed, pages flat and very bright; comb binding is twisted toward the ends of the spine; the card is broken on the top and bottom teeth of spine, and most pages are can be lifted from the outside two or three combs, indicating broken slots. However, all this is not visible, and the book looks quite attractive. Toploader oversized Ethel Hays reconceived the story of Peter, rather than copying Potter, and the result is a bright and cheerful domestic tale, quite unlike the original. Even the watering can is a red, yellow and blue sandy beach version, and there is no "implored him to exert himself" here! This book was also published by Saalfield in a stapled version and as a collection, but the red plastic comb version is fragile and harder to find. ABE Heritage Seller since 1996; conservative AB condition grading. We ship all our books in cardboard protection. International shipping. /Ethel Hays, illustrator.
