Paper Wrappers. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Low, David (illustrator). 1st Edition. 15, (1) pages. 184 x 124 mm. Original Wrappers. A response to the anti-German feeling aroused by the post-war discoveries at the concentration camps like Buchenwald, and a reminder that some victims were German citizens, and that some Germans opposed fascism. Gollancz is mistaken on many points. He claims that the Germans did not know or only knew "vaguely" and by "hearsay" what went on in the concentration camps. In fact all Germans knew that Jews were being systematically murdered. They also benefited from the spoils that flowed into Germany and that came from murdered Jews. Golancz, a Jew, speaks of a "Judeo Christian tradition." There is no such thing, though an anti Jewish Christian tradition has existed for c. 1,700 years. Just read the New Testament and its references to Jews, read was fate St. Jerome wished for the Jews. There is no "Judeo Christian tradition" any more than there is a "wolf lying with the lamb" tradition. With a David Low cartoon as frontispiece Pamphlet on the responses to Buchenwald, the death camps, and the widespread sentiment that all Germans are guilty of Germany's horrors. Gollancz argues that many Germans were victims of the concentration camps and death camps.

9'' x 7'' folded Left Book Club advertisement leaflet printed on all four sides opening to 9'' x 14''. The Left Book Club was a publishing group that exerted a strong left-wing influence in Great Britain from 1936 to 1948. Pioneered by Victor Gollancz, it offered a monthly book choice, for sale to members only, as well as a newsletter that acquired the status of a major political magazine. It also held an annual rally. Membership peaked at 57,000, but after the Soviet-Nazi non-aggression pact of 1939, it disowned its large Communist element, and subsequent years of paper-rationing, during and after the war, led to further decline. It ceased publishing in 1948. Alongside the Fabian Society and Transport House, the LBC's popularising of socialist ideas was a major influence behind the Labour victory in the general election of 1945.
