Robert Gilkison's "Early Days." was first publ;ished in 1930 and was to be subject to several reprints, becoming a respected reference for the region covered.This second, revised and enlarged edition was published in 1936 by Whitcombe and Tombs. Gilkison's book is particularly valuable for its coverage of the Otago gold rushes of the 1860s and the many events and incidents peripheral to those discoveries. Red hard covers with black front/spine titles are VG with slight bumps to corners, map to front end papers, ink gift inscription (dated 1937) on dedication page, text block otherwise excellent. 214 pages including appendix, (gold mining statistics) and index, b/w photo frontis, 26 other b/w photos. A clean and bright copy of this early edition of a Kiwi classic.
