This book reproduces his travel diary from that expedition along with watercolors from his sketchbook.

The illustrations are by Louis Choris, who served as artist with the Kotzebue expedition during its visit to the bay in 1816. This copy remains sealed in a plain cardboard shipping box, closed with paper tape since 1971. The copy was bought from a Los Angeles bookseller who himself acquired the copy directly from Howell Books. Hardcover with dust jacket, sealed in original shipping box.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Included. This 9.0 x 12.5, 67-page (plus route map section) hardcover book is the 1964 reprint by the legendary San Francisco bookseller John Howell. This edition was limited to 1000 copies and was designed and printed by Lawton Kennedy of San Francisco. This copy is in fine condition with the decorated cloth boards showing virtually no sign of wear or damage and the book is now protected by a clear plastic jacket. The interior of the book shows a paper label attached to the front pastedown but beyond that the text pages are in fine condition. This printing features the illustrations by Lewis Choris and two route maps at the end of the volume that illustrates the ocean routing of the 1775 voyage along the California coast and the dates where the ship put in to shore at various points along the coast. All in all a handsome book of an important California historic document. 67 pages.
