First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good-. First Edition. Some wear and with a previous owner's name on the cover; no interior markings. Illustrated with photographs and drawings. There is a quote from George Santayana, the American philosopher, that has a couple of variations: Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it; and - those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. So true. And he also said, "A country without a memory is a country of madmen," while the German philosopher Georg Hegel said, "We learn from history that we never learn anything from history." These Current History magazines tend to prove those statements. And a look through the titles suggests the problems of 1926 weren't much different than the ones we have now. This issue contains far too many articles to list them all but some of the highlights are: Europe's Moral and Material Obligations to America by Louis E. Van Norman; Canada's Control of the Liquor Traffic: The Canadian System a Failure by Deets Pickett, and Commedable Features of the Quebec Plan by Pierre S. du Pont; The Menace to Science from the Fundamentalist Movement by Maynard Shipley; Eugenics Vital to the Human Race by Samuel J. Holmes; Labor's Movement for a Five Day Week by John P. Frey; Japan's Struggling Labor Movement by William A. Neiswanger; The Negro Farmer's Progress in Virginia by William S. Scarborough; Cathode Ray a New Tool of Science by Watson Davis; and much, much more. Size: 8vo. Book.

Soft cover. Condition: New. Frey, Brian; Harris, Tony; Kristiansen, Teddy H.; Smith, Matt; Watkiss, John; Hamilton Craig; Williams III, J.H.; Jimenez, Phil; Weeks, Lee (illustrator). New condition glossy color illustrated softcover wraps. Includes Introduction by David S. Goyer. Profusely illustrated with color comic drawings. "Jack Knight was not the first to be called Starman. There were others: Among them were Jack's brother David; a castaway from the stars named Mikaal; Gavyn, the prince of a distnat galactic empire; and Jack's father, of course - Ted Knight, the first to carry the weighty mantle of Starman. And before Ted first donned the red and green and patrolled the streets of Opal City, another served as its protector and caretaker of the city's many secrets: a shadowy, shadowy gentleman known only as The Shade. These are their stories. Tales of times past. Starman: Times Past is a stirring collection of seven stories written by Eisner Award-winning writer and Starman co-creator James Robinson (The Golden Age, Leave It To Chance) and illustrated by Teddy H. Kristiansen (House of Secrets: Foundation), Matt Smith, John Watkiss, Craig Hamilton, J.H. Williams III (Justice Riders), Phil Jimenez (The INvisibles: Bloody Hell in America) and Lee Weeks (Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet)." - from the rear outer cover.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No dust jacket. First Edition. SCARCE FIRST EDITION of Dr. Frey's classic on the Pennsylvania Dutch (German) language, in red cloth with black titles, privately published in 1942 by the author, stated first edition, 140pp. Copyright page state "First Edition" followed by "437" in text - don't know if this is a code or if for each copy the type was reset. Given that it was privately printed, that could have happened. Very Good with light wear, but about a 1.25 inch separation of the cloth in the gutter.
