Fourth edition of a work originally published in 1817. Small octavo. pp viii, 119. Period binding of full dark green morocco with raised bands, gilt decoration. All edges gilt. A mock-Arthurian poem in four cantos. The ottava rima scheme he employed was borrowed by Byron for Don Juan. The author was implicated in the disastrous Battle of Corunna (1809), after which he retired from public life and retreated to Malta where he devoted himself to literature. Ownership inscription dated 1835 of a member of Frere's family on the first blank. On the front pastedown is the armorial bookplate of Stephen Edmond Spring Rice, son of First Baron Monteagle of Brandon, and the husband of a member of the Frere family.Spine snagged at head. Some light rubbing to covers. Very good indeed.
