Hardcover. Condition: Good -. No Jacket. Cloth boards; leather spine. Preface indicates that this is a "new edition," but no former copyright dates are entered. "[T]his publication. . . differs from its predecessor in the omission of all but the original Dialogues, and the insertion of many new pieces. . .the Debates are peculiar to this book. . ." The author was teacher at a "Young Ladies' School in Boston." Loss of about 1/4" at both head and tail of spine, with gutter beginning to split at bottom of both lower boards. Spine heavily rubbed. Front board shows dents at edges and cloth bears cross-shaped shadow of string or band that was previously tied around the book. Prior owner name, date in pencil on front endpaper. Light-to-moderate foxing and irregular brownstaining throughout. Otherwise clean and tight.

Contents age toned and foxed; otherwise clean and tight with no pen-marks and not from a library so no such stamps or labels. Size: 185mm x 120mm; collation: pp. vi, [ii], 86, complete with errata page at the rear, and two fold-out plates with an accompanying page of explanation. Both plates are browned and show a few minor splits along the folds which have since been sealed. In addition, there are numerous figures and illustrations within they text. Note: this is the Second Edition. As such it is much enlarged compared to the first 1827 edition. Thus a scarce book in very good condition.
