Predictive impact modeling with hydrological models and GIS. 9. Hatchling migration and water management. References. "Floodplain fisheries are a major aquatic common property resource in Bangladesh. However, the modification of the floodplains into croplands and the increasing number of people who were fishing the remaining waters seriously endangered this valuable ecosystem. During the Flood Action Plan in the early 90s a number of studies were carried out which examined the impact of water management on fisheries. The Compartmentalisation Pilot Project or FAP 20 is a water management project implemented from 1991 until 2000 and was financed by the Governments of Bangladesh, the Netherlands and Germany. Fisheries were a major component of the project and were thoroughly monitored from 1992-2000. The major results were presented in a final report (CPP, 2000) but it was felt that the results obtained and experiences gained on fisheries in the CPP project went beyond the original scope of the program for CPP. Some of them are of importance for inland fisheries in Bangladesh and tropical floodplain fisheries in general and were not covered in the final report. This book presents more detailed information on the different methods applied, results obtained and insight gained on floodplain fisheries in Bangladesh.

Condition: Fair. A WONDERFUL ASSOCIATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, THE FRENCH GEOLOGIST & ENGINEER, FELIX FOUCOU TO THE AMERICAN GEOLOGIST THOMAS STERRY HUNT - Octavo, 7-1/8 inches high by 4-5/8 inches wide. Burgundy calf backed burgundy cloth. The front cover is detached and the spine has largely perished and is thus lacking. xi, [i] & 400 pages. There is some very minor soiling throughout with minor foxing to the last few pages. A few page corners are creased. Good. First edition. A wonderful association copy, inscribed on the half-title by the author French geologist & engineer Felix Foucou to the American geologist Thomas Sterry Hunt. Subsequently from the library of geologist and mining engineer James Douglas with his bookplate mounted on the front endpaper. After his father's death when he was only 12 years old, the American geologist and chemist Thomas Sterry Hunt (1826-1892) worked in a printing office, in an apothecary shop and in a bookstore. His interest in natural science drew him to the study of chemistry and medicine and he was elected a member of the Association of American Geologists and Naturalists at Yale in 1845. That august body subsequently became the American Association for the Advancement of Science. As an assistant to Professor B. Silliman, Jr. at Yale, Hunt was appointed chemist to the Geological Survey of Vermont in 1846 and subsequently to the same position with the Canadian Geological Survey at Montreal. He left in 1872 to become professor of geology at MIT. As early as 1863, Hunt built on Tyndall's research on greenhouse gases to propose his theory linking climate change to the concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. James Douglas, after whom Douglas, Arizona was named, was born in Quebec and spent much of his early life in Scotland. For many years, as a metallurgist and mining engineer, he was involved in the management of several important Western American enterprises. Foucou's travels to North America allowed him to observe the effects of geological forces and those of man upon nature on a massive scale. His studies lead him to conclude that, just as time plays a significant role in the geological formation of the land, so does it play a role in conjunction with science and industry in the development of civilizations and the intellectual growth of man.
