Bound in the original brown pictorial cloth, stamped in black on the spine and front cover. The inner hinges have been neatly, and securely, reglued. The subtitle is embossed on a scroll on the front cover which also features the gilt-stamped image of a mustachioed man's head inside a gold diamond. The gilt on the spine has mostly flaked away, but the lettering remains distinct and legible. Original yellow gold patterned endpapers. Pages are clean and unmarked. NO foxing. This is a detailed study of the 1889 murder of a Chicago physician, Dr. Patrick Henry Cronin, in a conspiracy involving the Irish revolutionary group Clan-Na-Gael. Cronin's funeral attracted some twelve thousand mourners. The subsequent trial of Dan Coughlin, a Chicago police detective, and two other men was one of the most highly publicized in the city's history and made headlines nationwide. This book traces the case's detective work, step-by-step, including the search for the murder suspects, their capture, presentation of evidence and testimony during the trial, and the verdict and sentences.
