A shadow of manufacturing glue runs along the gutters of both paste downs, which gives a vaguely browned appearance to same. **Illinois-born Author Dora Aydelotte (1878-1968 ) constructed her first novel from a series of short stories first appearing in Forum Magazine. Part romance, part homily of simple farm life, there is pie-eating, picnic-making, buggy-riding and more in this depiction of small town life of the main character, young Barbr'y Miller. One review said, "Dora Aydelotte is the saga woman of the corn lands of the Mississippi basin. Her sturdy farm girl is a memorable and profoundly lovable character in American fiction." (Henry Goddard Leach, blurb) First trained as an artist at the Chicago Art Institute, Ms. Aydelotte turned to writing short stories, many of which were published in Forum Magazine following the Great Depression. "Long Furrows" is, in part, a retelling of some of these stories in novel form. Scarce.
