Original pale green wrappers, light crease across the top corner of upper wrapper and very light rubbing to extremities. A near fine copy. First printing of Donleavy's controversial first novel, one of the great picaresque novels of the twentieth century, banned from publication in the United States and Ireland for reason of obscenity. Maurice Girodias's Olympia Press published The Ginger Man after it has been turned down by 35 publishers, Donleavy and Girodias eventually fell out, Donleavy only regaining copyright of his novel after a protracted legal skirmish; he later had his revenge by outbidding Girodias for ownership of the Olympia Press following its decline into bankrupcy.
