Important work on the subject with sections on: correct position of the rider, side-saddle riding, mounting and dismounting, the trot, use of the opposite rein, flexions of elevation and much more. A very good copy with some light fading and wear to the cloth. The endsheets and first few pages have some foxing else the text is very good and clean with light wear. There is an ink name on the flyleaf. The jacket is missing the spine but has the front and rear panels and flaps. There is some chipping to the top of the rear panel. Scarce.

Spine ends bumped with a 1/4" split in the cloth at head, tips still fairly sharp and show color loss and are lightly brushed but no rub-through. The 419 pp text has a small pencil number '76 on the frt pastedown that is covered in clear cello tape that extends over the opposing blank fep and subsequent half title as they were torn. There is a 2" closed tear in the innermost margin starting at the dedication page running through the end of the preface that is clean, barely noticeable and affects nothing in the reading of the book. Remainder of this volume is crisp and unmarked, hinge papers are fine, page block secure and well bound, and the spine is not cracked. This is a coveted work, third in a trio on riding by Count De Souza, filled with 106 b/w photographs and line drawings. This is the third printing (Oct 10, 1930) of the first edition hardcover (1st released in 1922), in red cloth covered boards with gilt titles and horse 'n rider gilt line drawing on front board. Tips and spine ends bumped without any 'rub-through'. Light spotting on the cloth, Red cloth on backstrip is sunned but not much, perhaps two shades lighter than the boards. Gilt title on backstrip still legible, it is quite legible and this volume displays very well on the shelf. Inner hinge papers are fine, 357 pp text is crisp and clean. Former owner has created their own 'borrowing card' and have affixed it to the front pastedown. It was never borrowed.
