Farr and E.H. Nolan." Matching binding of half leather with brown pebbled boards. "History of England" in gilt on green leather patch to compartment two. Gilt decoration to other compartments. Each vol 11ins x 7.5ins. Volume one: 918pp plus engraved title page, portrait of David Hume and 52pp plates. Volume two: ix, (i), 600pp plus engraved title page, 15pp plates and 12 double page coloured maps. Volume three: viii, 872pp plus engraved title page and 26pp plates. Thus there are in total 3 engraved title pages, 94 plates and 12 maps. Some foxing to all 3 volumes - generally heaviest to first and last few pages. Corners worn. G+ set. Nb set weighs over 7kg. Very expensive to post overseas.

First appearing between 1754 and 1761, this History of Englandwas David Hume's magnum opus, held as the standard history of England in its day and running over one hundred editions.Hume's contribution began with Caesar's invasion and finished with the Revolution of 1688; Smollett's continued from the reign of William and Mary until the death of George II, and E. Farr and E. H. Nolan covered the accession of George III until the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Queen Victoria.David Hume (1711-1776) was a philosopher and writer of the Scottish Enlightenment.
