Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. US SELLER SHIPS FAST FROM USA: USED very GOOD: Visceral Sensory Neuroscience: Interoception Illustrated Edition Hardcover 2001 Visceral Sensory Neuroscience: Interoception Illustrated Edition by Oliver G. Cameron M.D. Ph.D. (Author), W.D. Hamilton (Author), Jonathan Abrams (Author), Donald Hunninghake (Author), & 7 more OUR REFERENCE: 130C10-0195136012-HC-1P7-lb-Red DESCRIPTION It has been known for over a century that there is an afferent(body-to-brain), as well as an efferent(brain-to-body), component to the visceral-atonomic nervous system. Despite the fundamental importance of bodily afferent information- sometimes called interoception- to central nervous system control of visceral organ function, emotional-motivational processes, and dysfunction of these processes, including psychosomatic disorders, its role did not receive much attention until quite recently. This is the first comprehensive review of this topic and it covers both neurobiological and psychobiological aspects. The author first defines the issue and gives an historical background starting with the James-Lange theory of emotion, and addresses learning and motivation, roots in Pavlovian conditioning research, and operant conditioning of visceral function. In the second section he reviews recent scientific findings in the neural basis of visceral perception and studies in cardiovascular-respiratory and alimentary interoception. Finally, he discusses several related areas of research and theory including drug state issues, interoception and psychiatric disorders, and bodily consciousness, and suggests directions for future investigation. The book will be of interest to scientists in neurobiology, psychology, and brain imaging, to indivuals in related clinical fields such as psychiatry, neurology, cardiology, gastroenterology, and clinical psychology, and to their students and trainees. Review "Overall, this is an excellent volume for students and researchers.I strongly recommend it."―Michael E. Robinson, Ph.D., in Psychosomatic Medicine "the author is clearly a master of the meaning of interoception and the ideas behind its historical development.a useful resource for students of psychology and neurobiology. I learnt a great deal from it and would recommend others embarking on the fascinating investigation of brain processing of bodily sensations now to read it."―BRAIN, 2003, 126, 1504-1506 About the Author Oliver G. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. A severely limited production of only 25 copies, of which "one [is reserved] for The Old Stile Press, one for each of the contributors and the remaining copies available for purchase". "Be Still .the response of friends," is an artistic response to a miniature book written by Nicolas McDowall and published in 2000, "Be Still, twelve haiku from the valley of the Wye." A friend of the McDowalls, Bill Garnett (Director/Curator, Pomegranate Fine Art) was especially fond of that book and felt it demanded to be re-visited with illustration. Garnett charged the McDowalls with the retro-realization, and the plan was quickly developed. The twelve haiku "months" were chosen by the respective artists with a maximum image dimension decided upon. Upon completion the blocks were presented to the McDowalls for printing, the result being this work, done to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the press; of the 25 copies printed, one was reserved for each contributor and one for the Press, leaving very few available to be sold. ___DESCRIPTION: Blue paper portfolio houses 14 loose folded leaves, within 13 of those leaves is a signed and numbered print (one by Harry Brockway entitled "Be Still", the other twelve for each of the twelve months), with the 14th print inlaid to the recessed upper board (also signed and numbered); text printed in black and blue, the paper for the text is Somerset Book White 175 gsm, the images are all printed on Rives Blanc Natural 120 gsm, folio size (approximately 13.25" by 10"), unpaginated, 14 folded leaves and 14 relief prints, each print is signed and numbered by the respective artist, signed at the colophon by Nicolas and Francis McDowell; limited edition of 25, this number 11.
