Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First edition. Blue cloth-covered boards, gilt spine lettering, 9 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches, 436 pp., index, b/w photo illustrations. Very good (modest spotty staining, top edge of book block). LAID IN: Six pieces of material about Father Seelos. (One complete issue of "Father Seelos and Sanctity" (February 1975), three apparent partial issues of "Father Seelos and Sanctity" (March 1975, November 1975, December 1976), a flyer entitled "Novena in Honor of Our Lady of Fatima for the Canonization of Father Seelos (imprimatur: Joseph Francis Rummel, D.D., Archbishop of New Orleans, 1962), and a color print of Father Francis Xavier Seelos on heavy paper, 7 x 5 inches (1962). From the Preface: "Although more than a century has passed since Father X. Seelos, C.SS.R., died of yellow fever in the Redemptorist Rectory of New Orleans, his memory is still alive. His present resting place in St. Alphonsus Church is visited annually by thousands of the faithful even as it had been when his remains lay, until a short time ago, in a crypt under the neighboring St. Mary's Assumption Church, of which he had been prefect. Countless homebound persons and hospitalized patients still regularly request to be blessed with the relics of this respected Redemptorist. indeed, it would seem that the Father Seelos cult keeps growing in New Orleans, a devotion which is all the more remarkable since he spent less than a year in this city."
