    Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. "Geordie Short's Letters." This volume only, containing letters from 1867 to 1868. [We note that another bookseller has offered a similar volume, with a spine titled: "Geordie Short's Letters / Ardrossan Edition / 1880-1882"]. A finely bound volume of clippings of letters written by Robert Cunningham under the pseudonym "Geordie Short". Binding dates from c. late 19th / early 20th century. Half leather binding with marbled pastepaper boards. Top page edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Spine with five raised bands, gilt rule and decorations. Small contemporary bookseller's ticket on front endpaper of Hugh Hopkins, 85 Renfield St., Glasgow. Spine title: "Geordie Short's / Letters / I. / Cunningham. / Hamilton Edition / 1867-1868." The clippings are variously from the print appearances of the "Georgie Short, Redivivus" letters in newspaper columns, or from the published book "Clydesdale Readings". The Geordie Short letters from pages 65 through 163 of "Clydesdale Readings" are all present. Handwritten contents leaves at rear. With a photograph of Robert Cunningham pasted in at front. Also includes a short signed autograph manuscript letter by Cunningham, pasted in and labelled "Specimen of Mr Cunningham's Handwriting. The letter is dated "Manitoban Office / Winnipeg 20 January 1873". Cunningham was born in Stewarton, Scotland in 1836. In 1868 he moved to Canada, where he worked as a journalist and was a politician. His "Geordie Short" letters are written in a Scottish dialect: "Maister Editur, Ae nicht last week as I was sittin' in my airm-chair readin' a book on demonology, while Nan was at her supper, bein' a little tired, an' feeling' my een somewhat dim, I closed my book, laid mysel' comfortably back, an' fixing my gaze on Nan I fell into a dreamy kind o' state, and by aid o' that versatility o' imagination peculiar to pheelosophers, I transformed Nan into a great she-dragon busy at a cannibalic repast." - from the letter "On Fashion". Some Robert Cunningham material is held by the Archives of Ontario.
