First Edition Signed
Softcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition. Quarto. Single bifolium with a single sheet insert making six pages. A small bit of separation at the top of the fold, soiling and foxing to the exterior, a light dampstain to the fore edge of the front cover, a very good and complete copy. Inscribed by Bell on the front cover, "To Darling Trudy, from The Composer - June 27, 1951." For voice and piano. Plate number, 8948-4. Charles Van Cott was the leader of the International Thomas Paine Committee, which he helped successfully raise enough money to commission a statue of Thomas Paine to be displayed in Burnham Park, in Morristown, New Jersey. The 14-foot statue, which still stands today, was dedicated on July 4th, 1950, the same year this song was published. *OCLC* locates only a single holding, and it appears to be equally scarce in the trade. A forgotten ode to one of America's Founding Fathers.
