First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. First Edition. 440 pp. Signed on the title page by Harvey Chalmers II. Red cloth lettered with gilt on the front panel and spine; endpaper maps. Wear on the corners of the dustjacket with a few nicks and chips and associated creasing around the edges; price clipped; aside from the author's signature, no interior markings. Set during the French and Indian War, this depicts the most dramatic episode of that war - the taking of Fort Frontenac by British Colonel Bradstreet and his small band of Regulars and colonial troops. On their way up the Mohawk Valley and across Lake Ontario, Bradstreet's army fought hostile natives, thirst, hunger, heat, sabotage, insects, wounds, malaria, storms and the torment of a never-silent aboriginal drum. And when they got within sight of Fort Frontenac, they were worn out and only Bradstreet's strength as a leader could encourage them to fight. The fall of Fort Frontenac marked the end of French dreams of a New France in North America. At the same time, it made the British doubt that they would be able to maintain control of the colonies that were populated by the people who would later be known as Americans. Size: 8vo. Signed by Author(s). Book.
