Précieux exemplaire complet de sa lithographie originale en couleurs sur double-page tirée par les Ateliers Mourlot ; laquelle est revêtue (insigne particularité : sur la composition et non en marge) de la signature autographe de Marc Chagall au pastel bleu. Envoi daté par l'artiste de 1976. Epreuve légendée au revers : Le Fleuve vert (mention imprimée). L'ouvrage recèle une abondante iconographie hors-texte. ''Je ne sais aucun artiste dont l'oeuvre soit poésie avec autant d'aisance et de bonheur'' écrit Mandiargues. Lequel nous invite ici à retrouver dans les toiles les plus récentes tous les personnages fabuleux qui sont nés de la palette de Chagall : les anges, les amoureux, les saltimbanques, les violonistes qui descendent des nuages et les chevaux qui offrent des bouquets.
