"This fun promotional brochure for Catalina Island, California was published at the start of the Roaring '20s - just two years after the island was acquired by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr. It was issued by the Wilmington Transportation Company, operator of regular passenger steamers and ferry service to the tourist playground from nearby Los Angeles. The steamship Avalon, lower center, is one example of the spacious and modern options. A central map shows the location of twenty-three points of interest across the island, while "the views shown here are characteristic of the beauty and unusual interest of California's treasure spots." A second map on the verso shows the route from Los Angeles to Catalina and includes a timetable effective April 1, 1921. Also of interest is the note that the fares include the war tax, despite WWI having ended two years prior." Sheet Width (in) 14.6 Sheet Height (in) 16.75 Condition Description "Formerly folded into 8 segments, with moderate wear along fold lines. About 4" of separation has been repaired on the verso with archival tape, though small edge tears and holes at the fold intersections remain.".
