White wrapper with black lettering. 188 very clean unmarked and uncreased informative and historical pages nicely enhanced by black and white photographs and illustrations!"Oklahoma is unique among the states of the Union. Many would consider us an ordinary group of people of little consequence, but thee are many accomplishments and conditions peculiar ONLY TO OKLAHOMA. When I came to Oklahoma 42 years ago, the movie, 'Grapes of Wrath' was being shown. It infuriated me. I had always had a sense of pride in my surroundings, and I was sure Oklahoma excelled or was distinctive in relation to other states. I began collecting information indicating examples in which Oklahoma was a bit different from other states. As i collected these examples, I shared them with others, and many persons gave me additional items. I then published them in the Sequoyah County Times. Incidentally, Jim Mayo and his staff were very co-operative in the publication of this material. In addition to the 275 statements and the 10 chapters in OKLAHOMA IS OK, this book has 28 additional chapters elaborating on some of the outstanding and unusual characteristics of Oklahoma.".

Very scarce and out-of-print SIGNED FIRST EDITION! 64 very clean unmarked and uncreased informative and historical pages nicely enhanced by black and white photographs and illustrations!"Colonel William Penn Adair Rogers was born November 4, 1879, the youngest child of Clement Vann and Mary America (Schrimsher) Rogers near present Oologah, Oklahoma. He was the kinsman of one Principal Chief of the Cherokees (Chief Johm Rogers), and his aunt married another (Chief Dennis Wolfe Bushyhead). He was #2340 on the Cherokee roll and was 7/32 Cherokee. He was named for the famous Colonel William Penn Adair, one of the most revered of Cherokees. Will had many of the traits of his mother, who was known for her sense of humor and was 'easy to know.' His father would have said that Will had none of his characteristics, for Clem Rogers was a hardnosed business man and politician with little sense of humor and one whose roots were deep in his surroundings. Will had a restless spirit with wanderlust that had to be satisfied, and few people have had a more divergent sense of humor than Will." (SIGNED FIRST EDITION).

They not only brought the Word of God to the wilderness, but gave this distant land an educational program that rivalled that of the east and introduced a vocational guidance program to the Indians a century before such arrived in other parts of the United States. The first mission in Indian Territory was Union Mission, located near present Mazie. It was originally established to minister to the Osages, but when it was discovered that it was located in the Cherokee Nation and was close to Creek nation, it attempted to cater to all three tribes." Very scarce and out-of-print SIGNED FIRST EDITION! 176 very clean unmarked and uncreased informative and historical pages nicely enhanced by black and white photographs and illustrations! "Outlaws, bank robbers, highwaymen, horse and cattle thieves, rapists and petty robbers flooded Indian Territory out of the reach of the law in previously established states. The Indian Light-Horse and Indian Police had jurisdiction over Indians but not over white and black persons. Eventually, the Federal Court came to fill the void, but the vast distances involved presented problems. Banks in small towns were especially vulnerable, as the bank robbers could get out of town and into the hills before they were apprehended. Trains often carried large sums of gold and silver and were targets for the outlaws. Stagecoaches were often waylaid and the mail and express confiscated along with the cash, jewels and watches of the passengers. There were not many banks in the early days, and many persons did not trust them, hiding money and other valuables on their property, making easy pickings for the greedy. Women and girls were often left alone when the men went to town or were working in the field, providing an opportunity for rapists to violate their sanctity. Payments were made to individual members of the Five Civilized Tribes from time to time, providing additional opportunity for outlaws to rob the wagon trains transportating the payments and the individuals receiving the money." --- from the Preface. (SIGNED FIRST EDITION).
