Bellissima legatura editoriale in piena tela verde con illustrazioni e titolo in nero ed oro al piatto anteriore ed al dorso. Qualche leggero foxing in poche pagine dovuto alla qualità della carta utilizzata e nel complesso, esemplare in buone condizioni di conservazione. Prima non comune edizione di questo importante scritto dedicato all Uganda dell inizi del XX° secolo. Charles William Hattersley (1866 1934) era un missionario britannico che si unì alla Church Missionary Society all'inizio del 1897 dopo aver gestito una coltelleria a Sheffield. Nel settembre dello stesso anno lasciò l'Inghilterra per l'Uganda, dove aiutò a creare il sistema di istruzione primaria, fu coinvolto nell'educazione dei figli dei capi ugandesi e alla fine prestò servizio come preside della scuola della Missionary Society Church sulla collina di Mengo a Kampala. Fotografo dilettante entusiasta, Hattersley divenne il fotografo ufficiale della corte e della chiesa ugandesi. Il suo Uganda descritto in "Pen and Camera", pubblicato dalla Religious Tract Society a Londra, venne edito con lo scopo principale di reclutamento di nuovi missionari, ma il libro contiene anche informazioni preziose sulla storia e la cultura dell'Uganda. The boards are shelf rubbed, edge worn and marked, with some slight fraying along the edges and a sticker to the front. Despite this, the boards remain strong and sturdy. Internally, there is an ex-libris plate under the front board and library marks, stamps and stickers to the end pages. Some wear and chipping to the front and rear pages but nothing that affects the text. Library stamp markings scattered throughout. No title pages - book begins on page 1.
