Mauve cloth hardcover with gilt lettering and black decorations to front board; stamped decorations to back board; no jacket; 132 pages; 1877 only dates on title and copyright pages. Good plus condition: spine faded; slight fading to edges of boards; a little staining to boards; small hole in cloth on spine; straight; hinges strong; interior very nice. Seems to be a defense of dance, dancing, and dancers. Size: 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Book.

Hardcover in Good condition; Dance of Death by William Herman (believed to be Ambrose Bierce), published by Henry Keller, 1877, San Francisco. 131 pages plus The Author to the Public. Clay brown cloth covers with black embossed decorations and title, rubbed, corners bumped and lower edges fraying. Spine head and tail bumped. wear to covers. Front flyleaf has erasures, crinkling, and 1" tear at upper inside spine edge. Binding is solid. Text is otherwise unmarked, although aged. Satire, presumed to be penned by Bierce, warning of the dangers of the waltz and the immoral effects on women and young girls. The Dance of Life, authored by Mrs. Dr. J. Milton Bowers, published a few months after The Dance of Death, 1877 in San Francisco. 132 pages.Green cloth covers with black embossed decorations and gilt title on front cover.Wear to covers. Lower corners bumped, front lower corner worn through. Spine head and tail bumped and beginning to fray. Front flyleaf appears to have been removed. Some foxing to pages. Unmarked text.
