Heart rendering historical 1923-1944 memoir of life in China, specifically in life in Shanghai of journalist Edna Lee Booker & real estate broker husband John S. Potter. Edna left the Los Angeles Herald for the China Press (leading American daily of the moment); and husband John, after teaching in the Philippines. Together they knew old Shanghai, including Japanese occupation & consequent Japanese internment camps before the end of World War II (1939 - 1945). Edna & children, repatriated to USA in 1940 under emergency evacuation of women & children program --- John had to stay on to 1943 & knew 3 years of incarceration in Japanese interment camps, is shared in the latter part of this volume.
