The foot of the front cover has some light discoloration. Pages are clean and bright. Some very light discoloration around page edges. Endpapers have some discoloration and a previous owner's name written to the head of the front free endpaper. Full color illustrations throughout. Six stories of the adventures of Little Black Sambo. Dust jacket has been wrapped in a protective mylar cover. Jacket is illustrated with an image of Sambo riding an elephant. Jacket has overall discoloration. A large chip missing from the foot of the front of the jacket. Tape has been used to repair several areas. Chipping along the bottom and top edge, as well as the corners. Jacket was wrapped in a removable Mylar cover after being photographed.

A continuation of the tale of Sambo, the beloved children's character who has not been immune from charges of racism for both the story & pictures since he was first introduced by Ms Bannerman in 1899. Here, American illustrator Frank Ver Beck (1858-1933) joins her in creating 5 new tales featuring Sambo as he encounters elephants, tiger kittens, monkey people, bears, & crocodiles. The original story is also included. 64 pp. Orig. published by Altheus in 1930, this is the First Printing of Platt & Munk's edition from 1935 (First, thus). Hardcover small 4to (8" x 10.25") has bright orange cloth-covered boards with a colorful paper pastedown to front. Condition is VG: very clean & bright, most pages white & completely unmarked except for this flaw: pages 9/10 & 11/12 have long tears that were mended long ago with cellophane tape, which has yellowed over the years, staining the underlying section of page. Exterior corners mildly bumped, light rubbing to extremities, heavy at both ends of spine, with some cloth tearing at heel & a small missing patch there. NO DJ (Missing).
