Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. Jacket and illustrations by Charles Hargens (illustrator). 1st Edition. First UK edition, first impression. Jacket sadly worn and tatty, with edge wear, chipping, creasing and small loss to top and bottom of jacket and spine, 2" loss to bottom mid spine with associated creased tear to front jacket, corners and folds worn and rubbed with small loss, some overall time and fingerprint staining, spine creased and slightly browned, but on the whole jacket largely intact and a rare survival. Dark cream illustrated boards, worn to top and bottom, slight lean, not price clipped (6s), no inscriptions, internally clean and tightish, overall a reasonable copy for its age and thin wartime paper. 194pp. An exciting western story for young readers, involving buffalo hunts and escape from raiding Commanches. I have been able to find out very little about author Elizabeth W. Baker. She may have been a Virginia teacher, who wrote perhaps three western stories for children in the middle of the twentieth century. A scarce book.
