EXTREMELY RARE collection of studies on sources and composition of the famous account of 64 persecutions of Jews in different countries throughout the ages called "Scepter of Judah" (Shevet Yehudah), written in Hebrew by an eminent Renaissance Spanish Jewish historian and physician Solomon ibn Verga, first published in 16th-century Turkey. In this book the renowned German-Israeli historian and leading authority on medieval Spanish Jewish history - Fritz [Yitzhak] Baer (1888-1980), an attempt is made to elucidate the historical and literary background of 'Shevet Yehudah', since the work is clearly a compilation of three different authors and is not arranged in chronological order, as well as it's use by Samuel Usque in his "Consolation for the Tribulations of Israel", the only contemporary of Solomon ibn Verga to have made use of the latter's work. 235x155mm. 85 pages. Board rebound Hardcover with cloth spine. Gilt lettering on spine. Cover slightly curved, slightly stained and yellowing/age-stained. Cover edges and corners bumped and worn/peeling.
