    Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. This is a trade sized paperback book with cardstock covers and a glued binding. The text is all in Portuguese. The book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. There is some noticeable creasing to the covers, especially the front cover. The spine of the book has rubbing and some grease pencil marks. Part of the author's name has been rubbed off. The text pages are mostly clean and bright, with toning to the edges of the pages and the edges of the text block due to the acid content of the paper. This copy has an ink stamped signature and inscription of the author on the half title page. This self-published volume contains a series of quatrain style poems all written in Portuguese. Arthur Avila was born in 1888 and immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's. He and his brother João founded the Latin-American Broadcasting Company in the 1930's and ran the first daily Portuguese radio show in California. He delved into Newspaper publishing and editing and was an important person in the Bay Area's Portuguese community. This book was written shortly before his death in 1962. There are only six copies of this book listed in Worldcat.

Signed in Oakland, California and dated by the author in the year of publication on the half title page. Some wear covers and creasing to bottom corner tips. A scarce book, especially if signed by the author. 1st edition; Arthur V. Avila was born on the Ilha do Pico, Azores, in 1888 and came to California in 1909. In the early 1930s he started the radio program "Castelos Românticos" and other Portuguese Programs. He became one of the two most popular Portuguese radio personalities in the Bay Area where he also founded the newspaper "O Portugal and was with Celeste Dantos, the organizer of the Latin American Broadcasting Company. He is hailed as an early California Radio Pioneer, Newspaper publisher and editor, and was an important presence in Portuguese religious, civic, and social organizations.
