About this Item: appresso Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari, In Vinegia, 1550. Rilegato. Condition: molto buono. In-12, ff. 140. Segnatura: A-M12. Marca tip. al titolo. Privo delle 3 cc. in fine (di cui 2 bianche e 1 con marca tipografica). Bella egatura in marocchino marrone del sec. XIX con titoli e filetti in oro al dorso e piatti inquadrati da un binario di filetti in oro. Prima edizione postuma, corretta dal Domenichi, della «sedicente traduzione» fatta dal Firenzuola ai Metamorphoseon Libri di Apuleio, testo pervenutoci dall'antichità anche con il titolo di Asinus Aureus. Giacomo Leopardi, nella «Proposta di Premi fatta dall'Accademia dei Sillografi», menzionò i tre asini d'oro della storia letteraria (il nostro del Firenzuola, oltre a quello di Apuleio e Machiavelli), dandoci egli per ben inteso che si tratta di Asini tutti reputatissimi, ma diversissimi l'uno dall'altro. Riguardo alle edizioni di questo celebre travisamento, lo Zeno stabilì che la nostra è la prima edizione, fatta in elegante garamoncino corsivo dal Giolito. La dedica di Lorenzo Scala a Lorenzo Pucci, data da Firenze il 25 maggio 1549, fece un tempo credere per vera un'edizione dei Giunti dello stesso anno, che però non esiste.
