An exciting, informing, often harrowing and moving anecdotal narrative. Former owner name on front endpaper. The Moravian church sponsored the medical training of young Joseph Herman Romig, who was to dedicate his life to the welfare of the Eskimos in Alaska. Forty-four years ago he went there with his bride and a promise of an expense account of $50 a year, but no salary for seven years. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. This 6.25 x 9.25 inch, 390 page hardcover book is the First Edition of this title in 1943 - with that date showing on the title page and matching the copyright date on the following page. This book is in very good condition - but lacks the dust wrapper. The red-and-blue cloth covers with gilt embellishment on front panel and gilt titling on spine shows time-wear - especially at the two bottom corners - which are just slightly peeking through. Slight handling-wear shows along the spine and the front board has a very slight cock to it. The interior features the wonderful differing endpaper maps. This copy features a wonderful gift inscription by the author to Gilbert Costello - thanking him for the earlier history of the area written by Gilbert?s father - J. A. Costello - all dated 1944. The interior of the book is in very good condition if not better with no markings or damage and with a touch of age-toning showing to the paper. 390 pages. Inscribed by Author.
