This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Scientific Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Literature - Africa, University of Nigeria, language: English, abstract: Theories of language, linguistic and non linguistic communication are diverse. In the Humanities there are so many interpretative tools. These tools are means to an end and not the end in themselves. Just as we have equations in the natural sciences so do we have theoretical frameworks, literary criticisms and approaches to literature and the communication arts in the Humanities. These interpretative tools are keys to opening and analyzing works in the Humanities and other disciplines. Most of these theories are borrowed from other disciplines other than the ones exploiting them. In the literary sciences, rooms are given for inter-textual interpretations as well as for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches. Hence one could analyze a given fiction, drama or poem using one or more approaches as the case may be. At the primary and secondary school level, essays are simply written and novels are simply read and interpreted by simple minds. But at the tertiary educational level, one would expect the reader, the critic or the recipient to be thorough, analytical and scientific in his appraisal of the text before him. In receptions-theory the analytical mind is not left empty handed in this art of researching on or beyond the text .For one to access these tools effectively one must be equipped with literary terms. Interpretative tools are legion. Some are text-centered and linguistic and others are extra-textual and non linguistic. Hermeneutics and the sister theoretical frameworks like the positivism, formalism, explication de texte, New Criticism, Structuralism, post-structuralism, Semiotics, de-construction etc are text-centered interpretative tools while the society based theories like Marxist-socialism, psycho-analytic theory, feminism, receptions-theory, racial theory, cultural and intercultural studies, Literature and the media, literature and history, literature and biography etc fall under the beyond textual interpretative approaches. Our interest in this exercise is on the raw textual analytic approach. Many students usually prefer the easier approaches which are mostly society based and abhor the dry and puritanist approaches. This paper is aimed at introducing the audience to the rigors of scientific approaches to the study of texts, images and languages. 36 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Literature - Africa, grade: keine, University of Nigeria (Humanities), course: Humanities and Post Colonial Studies, language: English, abstract: Modern African francophone and Anglophone Literatures date back to the era of the negritude movement. The pioneer African writer was confronted by the ugly past experiences of the inhumanity of the Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Saharan Slave Trade coupled with the degradation of the colonial period. As a result, he decided to pitch his camp with his suffering people by prefering to portray this evil in his writings, creating awareness on ways forward and calling for reforms. His tool was the sociological method. He laid less emphasis on the German werkimmanenz, the French l'art pour l'art, the Russian Formalism and the North American close-reading. The African feminist writer also turned her back to the Euro-American version of feminism and preferred the home-made ideology termed Womanism and her sister acronyms such as Stiwanism and Motherism which maintain that men and women relationship and apportioning of roles in the society should be complementary and not rivalry-prone or confrontational, while condemning obnoxious cultural and anti-womanist practices. Hence African men and women should concert efforts in liberating the African continent which is still suffering from modern versions of Slavery and Colonialism. This research will apply a multi-disciplinary approach and invoke the womanist, psychoanalytical and existentialist theoretical frameworks inter alia to appraise the relevant works of Chinua Achebe, Aminata Sow Fall and Ahmadou Kourouma inter alia. Through their realist portrayals, these African writers have created awareness of the injustices perpetrated by African oppressors, both Euro-Americans and their African collaborators. This research is a call on African writers for more prophetic and liberating efforts in their creatic works and aesthetics. Liberation Literature should by so doing ursher in a GREAT REFUSAL of the status quo and a way forward towards the birth of the beautiful ones in Africa who will fashion out a home-made literary, political, economic and social transformation for the betterment of not only women, but also men as well as youths of Africa. 36 pp. Englisch.

Literature remains aconsistent tool in the representation, comprehension and interpretation offields of human endeavour such as religion, class struggle, politics, humansituations, social conflicts and Gender relations. No wonder then, genderrelations, especially feminism has laid hold on literature as a veritablemachinery for gender activism Men discovered the gold mine in literaturequite early and for ages tapped its resources to carve a niche for the malegender in politics, culture and religion. At the same time the male genderused the resources of literature and criticism to invent prejudices, stereotypes and superstitious beliefs and heaped them on the female gender. While women laboured under this burden for ages, men were busyupstaging them in every field of life. Few instances have however existedwhere certain female figures due to their exalted royal, military, economicsand cultic backgrounds have through individual efforts raised their headsabove water in their respective societies and eras. Literature has equallyrecorded cases where powerful women in various races have astutely andsubtly cornered for themselves rights and priviledges which ordinary womenand even ordinary men could never dream of. Such positions were likepersonal identity cards which neither outlived them nor were enjoyed byother women during and after their lifetime. These examples are todayliterature, in history and literary achieves. [.] 24 pp. Englisch.

For Muslims, Islam covers everyaspect of life: religion and society. Even the minutest details ofpublic and private life are ventured to, such as the family, business, food, personal etiquette and hygiene. As a resultIslam has its prying eyes targeted into the private and publiclife of her members, especially the life of her female members.A study of the three major sources of Islam: The Koran,The Hadith, and their biological, legal and theologicalinterpretations shows that Islam was very much influenced bythe patriarchal Arabian culture. Inspite of the efforts by Islamto reform the sexist tendencies in this culture, her best effortshave been seen to be hardly good enough for women 40 pp. Deutsch.

Without prejudice to the assertion of anthropologists like G.T. Anderswo waren weiblicheBilder in Toto abwesend. A crime attributable to the Euro-Americans. Two nations laidthe foundation of what later became the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. These werePortugal and Spain. The voyage of discovery reached Black Africa in 1445, whenDinis Dias and Lanzarote de Freitas anchored their fleets at the mouth of theSenegal River, and reconnoitered some of the Cape Verde islands. The remainingparts of the Archipelago was discovered jointly by the Venetian Alvise deCadamosto (1430-1480), Antonio Uso Mare from Genoa. There were no furtherdiscoveries until the death of Henry the Navigator in 1460. As at this period thelocal chiefs were already into the lucrative slave trade. Pedro de Cintas in 1462discovered the coasts of Guinea, the Bissagos Islands, Sierra Leone and Liberia.Fernando Po and Lopez Gonzalves navigated Fernando Po and Sao Tome Islands.Vasco Da Gama came on stage between 1460-1524, got through Cape Verde androunded the Cape of Good Hope (20th march 1499). Thus, the routes to the Indieswere opened. Diego Dias took another flank, reaching Madagascar (1500),Ascension Island (1501) and Islands of St. Helena (1502). With these breath-takingvoyages of discovery it became possible to cross the Atlantic directly withoutpassing through the harsh West African Coast. The Mediterranean had always been the centre of attraction. It united North Africaand Europe. When it fell into the hands of Islam, Europe, particularly Portugal andSpain sought for alternative routes. Islam could not match the Christian nations inthe mastery of the sea in quest of economic prosperity. It therefore took thePortuguese nearly 100 years (1415-1498) to reconnoiter the precise circumferenceof Africa. In this way trans-Atlantic trade replaced Trans Saharan trade. Reason being that on the other side of the Atlantic, Christopher Columbus had in 1492 setfoot on the new world. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject Politics - Political Theory and the History of Ideas Journal, grade: Eins, LMU Munich (Geschwister-Scholl Institut für Politische Wissenschaft), course: Social Constructivism in International Rel. Theory, language: English, abstract: The goal of this work is to study the Approach of Social Constructivism in International Relations and to anchor this examination to the emergent debate of Feminist Constructivism as an offshoot of Gender in International Relations. To market International Relations as a social construction is to underscore the importance of Interactions, discourse, change and sociality as opposed to Individuality, autarky, power, materiality , rationality and militarism. In this regard Social Constructivism ushers itself in, in the discipline of International Relations as a new alternative to the traditional theories that have hitherto monopolized the way political scientists have been viewing the inter - and intrastate events. Constructivism is the new approach to International Relations. It takes a middle course between realism and liberalism. Constructivism explores the role of ideas, images, symbols, norms, culture and discourse on social life. It stresses that ideational factors such as dialogue and exchange of ideas are more result-oriented in socio-political life than material factors. Constructivism is a social Theory that centers on social life and social change. Focusing on ,social facts'(Searle 1995) like money, sovereignty and rights which have no material reality but are inter-subjectively made real by shared ideational forces among peoples, Constructivists followed the example of Foucauld who opined that discourse is the root of all successes in human and social relations. Encompassing a broad range of theories that tackle the questions of ontology(the science of being), Constructivism insists that actors are shaped by the social environment in which they found themselves. In this way it researches on how identities and interests are created. Just as we have earlier noted, it handles also epistemological enquiries such as the material versus the ideational debate. Distancing itself from Realism, Neo- Realism and other utilitarian and materialist theories, Constructivism is skeptical about most of their claims such as those bordering on historical and scientific accuracy. For no single observation and account is flawless. 64 pp. Englisch.
