Collectable lobby cards
Lobby cards are one of the more glamorous types of ephemera listed for sale on AbeBooks. Smaller than movie posters, lobby cards were first used in the early 20th century, to generate buzz and excitement about a new motion picture. Most typically glossy 8X10 on heavy card stock (as opposed to posters), these little promotional gems used to be found in the front of cinemas. Most films released a set of eight lobby cards, to be traded, collected and prized. This often consisted of a title card, similar to a smaller version of the movie poster, and seven scene cards, depicting various memorable scenes from the film. But along with small cinemas, lobby cards began to fade into obscurity, and have rarely been seen in North American cinemas since the late 1970s or early 1980s. See more lobby cards.
