Shortlists for 2015 Costa book awards


The shortlists for the 2015 Costa book awards have been announced. There are five prizes in all and two major names – Anne Enright and Kate Atkinson – appear among the contenders for the novel prize.

The Loney

The Guardian notes that The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley, which is up for the first novel prize, had an original print run of just 300 copies. The debut novel is an unsettling story set on the Lancashire coast in which a teenager and his disabled brother take part in a Catholic pilgrimage.
