Interview with Booker contender Ruth Ozeki

Ruth Ozeki

She’s one of the front-runners for the 2013 Man Booker Prize. She splits her time between New York and British Columbia. She wrote an acclaimed novel about a woman living on Cortes Island, British Columbia, in a remote area known as Desolation Sound. She’s currently one of the most talked about authors in the book business.

Ruth Ozeki, the Booker shortlisted novelist, has an exciting few weeks coming up as the big night in London nears. My colleague Jessica Doyle tracked her down and asked about A Tale for the Time Being, the books and writers that have influenced her, and how the writing life has treated her.

“It’s wonderful to have the book included with other really amazing titles,” said Ozeki about being on the Booker shortlist. ” For me, that’s one of the loveliest things about it. It’s a wonderful occasion to celebrate books and express gratitude to all of the people that have worked so hard behind the scenes to get these books out into the world.”
