Christoph W. Sensen was born in Oberhausen-Sterkrade, Germany. He studied Biology in Mainz, Düsseldorf and Cologne and obtained a Dr. rer. nat. degree from the University of Cologne in 1994. From October 1992 to November 1993, he worked as a Visiting Scientist at EMBL Heidelberg. From 1994 to 2014, he lived and worked in Canada, initially as a Research Officer at the Institute for Marine Biosciences (National Research Council of Canada) and later as a Professor at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Since September 2014, he is a Professor for Computational Biotechnology at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Graz University of Technology in Austria. His research interests are Genome Research and Bioinformatics.
