"Movies should be a positive expression that there is hope, mercy, justice, and charity."
Frank Capra
This is what I am all about. Not just with my films but with everything that I have done.
After graduating from college with a master’s degree in speech pathology, I provided therapy at a public school. There, we created a program that helped every student in our school to read at grade level. This program was used throughout California in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Following my work in the schools, I began producing a parenting show for PBS. As I was doing research for this program, I discovered Dr. Howard Gardner’s research on different styles of learning. I connected immediately with his work and ultimately created the You Are Smarter Than You Think program, which became a book of the same name. Everyone learns differently. Unfortunately, we are not given a how-to book at birth. My book is that how-to book. It teaches anyone how to learn, using their brain the way it was designed. Wonderfully, this book has sold over 150,000 copies nationally. Twenty years later, it is still selling.
So, this brings me to now. I love film. As a child, my favorite thing to do was to reenact the last film that I had seen or to create and act out a new one. I minored in theatre in college. I studied at The Lee Strasberg Film and Theatre Institute in Los Angeles. I performed in summer stock musical theatre for two summers in the 1970’s.
After my husband of thirty years passed away, I looked around and realized that I was now financially secure. I decided that it was time for someone to bring films that I wanted to see, back to the marketplace. That is the reason I wrote the book and the screenplay, Peace Train.
Over the past two years, a coproducer from China and my US team raised $15 M to produce this film. In addition, we secured all the necessary permits. Then, in October 2019, the Chinese Central Government stepped in and told us we could not produce this story in China. It was too controversial. In one moment, we went from being fully funded and hopeful, to having nothing. Not really.
We lost our money. However, we were left with the most inspiring movie script ever. Peace Train is a story about three sworn enemies and their path to forgiveness and peace. This story was written to inspire and to bring a new idea for peace to the minds of all people.
Frank Capra understood the power of media. We have been lied to about this power. I love to be inspired. Don’t you? I believe there is greatness in each and every one of us. Want to join me and uplift the world?
