This is an original 1725 copper-plate Dutch engraving on handmade, fine, heavy paper from the first edition of Dom Augustin Calmet¿s Het algemeen groot historisch, oordeelkundig, chronologisch, geografisch en letterlyk naam- en woord-boek, van den ganschen H. Bybel (.) Nu in 't Nederduitsch overgezet, merkelyk vermeerdert, en met aanmerkingen verryckt door Mattheus Gargon. Leiden, Samuel Luchtmans, 1725. The English title was "An Historical, Critical, Geographical, Chronological, and Etymological Dictionary of the Holy Bible". . . Calmet (1672-1757) was a Benedictine monk, scholar, teacher of philosophy and theology and pioneer in Biblical study, who had access to many manuscripts and books in many libraries and was able to compile the first dictionary of its kind. His work was seminal but is now dated. The dictionary was written while he was Abbey of Moyenmoutier. The book was published originally in 1725, and there were many later editions in various languages as well as books influenced by Calmet. Seller Inventory # 008615
