About this Item
We offer an original drypoint etching by the Danish artist Carl Johan David Nordell, Cape Ann Quarryland. Plate size is 5" x 7", paper size 8 1/4" x 9 1/8". Printed on laid paper. Signed in graphite at the bottom right. Inscribed with the title at the bottom left. Initialed in plate at lower right. Wonderful variety of mark making throughout, velvety drypoint burr in the foreground, precise lines of the quarry Derricks form a geometric abstraction that towers over the miniscule workmen in the industrial landscape. Born in Denmark in 1885, Carl J. Nordell emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 10. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Academie Julian in Paris. He was a member of numerous arts groups including the Salmagundi Club, the Boston Arts Club, the North Shore Arts Association and the Brooklyn Society of Etchers. His work is in collections of the New York Public Library, Cleveland Museum of Art and the Smithsonian. Condition: Faint toning around the plate, not touching the image. Hinged to board with linen tape, 1/4' x 1/2" pieces at top right and left on recto, well away from platemark. Otherwise very good. Seller Inventory # PR00084
