We offer a hand-colored lithograph from a later edition of John James Audubon's Birds of America published from 1856 to 1871 and produced by J.T. Bowen. American Golden-crested Kinglet is printed on ivory wove paper that is 10 3/8" x 6 1/2". Condition: Faint toning at margins, otherwise very good. John James Audubon (1785 1851), born Jean-Jacques Audubon, was an American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. His major work, a color-plate book entitled The Birds of America (1827 1839), is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. Audubon identified 25 new species.
