Somewhat faded red cloth covered boards with quite marked bleaching to the spine cover. There is an owner's name on the ffep dated 1951 together with some stencilled and coloured large initials. The hinge opposite the title page is sprung and just about remains competent. Illustrations are by Sheila Roe. There is a stain on the front margin of pp11-14. Book Description Collins, London, 1950. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. The interior of the book is clean and tight, with slightly darkened paper. The pink cloth covers are fresh, with light wear at edges and corners. The gilt spine lettering has dulled. The dust jacket is not price-clipped (7s. 6d.) but is only in Good condition, with edge rubs, several folds along the bottom of the front panel, and shallow chipping at the top of the spine. The attached scan gives a better idea of condition. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: "As a result of a taunt from the English mistress, Alison decides to write a book . School rules, and punishments for breaking them, leave little free time; collaborators who mean to help only hinder; and there seems to be something wrong with every plot that comes to her mind. Finally she decides it shall be a pony book, and asks her friend Tamsin to illustrate it. They spend the summer holidays together at Alison's home in Scotland where they school a pony in order to gain first-hand knowledge. But still there are difficulties and most awkward of all is the fact that Alison cannot describe what it feels like to win a gymkhana until she does so herself. Bookseller Inventory # 007525
