PUBLISHER: Scribner and Welford DATE/EDITION: 1888 -(vol1-4), 1889 (vol 5 & 6) and 1890 (vol 7 & 8) BINDING: 8 volumes are hardbound in brown cloth with gilt decoration and Shakespeare on front covers and lettering on the spines, beveled edges, all top ends gilt. DUST JACKET: No jackets, probably as issued BOOK CONDITION: There is a one inch black mark on the front cover of volume one otherwise all of the covers are very good. There is light spotted foxing here and there throughout the set but otherwise the interiors are very clean. All of the bindings are very tight. Volume seven seems to be a little bit lighter brown than the others but all publishing information matches the rest of the set. DESCRIPTION: A note on the half title page of volume one reads - To George M. Sleeth from Bird Dec 26th, 1887, I believe Sleeth was a professor at the university of Pittsburgh and the local Theological Seminary. Notes and introduction to each play by F. A. Marshall and other scholars. numerous illustrations by Gordon Browne with tissue guards. Seller Inventory # 004007
