The page after the Title Page has an introductory note by Collins: "To Bryan Waller Procter From one of his younger brethren in Literature who sincerely values his friendship and who gratefully remembers many happy hours spent in his house." Illustration on the Frontispiece of a sentence from page 637, as noted. Maroon boards with gilded title on spine. Title is somewhat worn off, as binding is darkened as well as torn off from the binding. Some rubbing to end and corners of boards.Pages are clean although yellowed. A scarce one volume edition of Wilkie Collins' noted mystery novel 'The Woman in White', considered to be the first and finest novel in the genre of 'sensation novels'. 'The Woman in White' was first published in serial form in 1859-1860 in 'All The Year Round' before the first printing in book form in 1860.
