First edition in two volumes published in 1840. Dark red leather spines, buckram boards.Gilt decoration and lettering to spine and front board. Edges of covers rubbed, and spines slightly scuffed. Frontispiece engravings and vignette illustrations. Pen inscription to Volume 1 reads: 'The Lord Ribblesdale from his Sincere Friend F. Bernal - on his leaving Eton, Election 1844.' Further handwritten letter enclosed, dated 1898. Book plate of Tom Garnett attached to inside cover. Tightly bound, VG. ALL BOOKS SHIPPED IN TOUGH CARD PACKAGING.
