About this Item
New York: Horizon Press, 1981. (10 3/4 x 9 1/2 in., 27.5 x 24 cm). np. (xv, 77pp.) Stated first printing of the enlarged edition "with a corrected text and 24 additional photographs." Original blindly stamped monogrammed blue-grey cloth-wrapped boards - HL stamped upper, JA lower (cloth lightly dulled at top and bottom edges, with a few faint scuffs, also a more significant light scuff running parallel 11mm above the bottom of the front cover; internally clean, crisp and fine). Original grey jacket printed in white (unclipped and clean, very faintly toned at top, lightly rubbed and with minimal wear at extremities, top corner of upper panel with sliver of color loss, upper joint bump midway up, 12 x 60mm dampstain at bottom edge at spine is not detectable from the outside, sticker stain over printed ISBN at bottom of lower panel. Despite this lengthy list of faults this jacket presents quite nicely). Please see images. John Szarkowski (MoMA) on the photography of Helen Levitt "What is remarkable about these photographs is that the immemorially routine acts of life.are revealed as being full of grace, drama, humor, pathos, and surprise, and also that they are filled with the qualities of art, as though the street were a stage, and its people were all actors and actresses, mimes, orators, and dancers." Contains 68 black and white plates, beautifully printed by Meriden Gravure Company (halftone photography by Richard Benson). Design by Marvin Hoshino. In this edition Agee's essay precedes the photographs in its entirety. A very nice copy of a wonderful book. Inquiries welcomed. Seller Inventory # 2011044
