About this title

Synopsis:

Like Water is a collection of haiku (traditional style) originally written in Spanish and now translated into English. The book is divided into four sections: Water (水), Nature (自然), Life (人生) and Writing (書).  It has forty-nine haiku accompanied by fifty-three full color images: photographs by the author, illustrations by Andy Castillo (www.andycastillo.com); and Japanese calligraphy (Shodo) by Elena "Hikari" from Shodo Creativo www.shodocreativo.com. It also has a translated haiku (written in beautiful Japanese calligraphy) by Akiko Harimoto "Soja."

Review:

-We are in front of a work where everything, in harmony, is sequence, consequence, continuity: Heraclitus holding hands with Parmenides, that which flows embraces that which remains. There is no enmity but understanding, there is no harm but gentle cauterizing and reparation. José Kozer -This collection of haiku is, in effect, an ekphrastic work of art, and in a triple sense: an example of the visual arts, as well as a literary work, and a profoundly musical one at that! A lush, gorgeous book that leaves the reader eager to frame it and hang it up, and at the same time read it aloud to give free rein to its sound. Rhina P. Espaillat -The cycle of life is sketched in images, with its all-absorbing seeds and thoughts. Everything is traced out in Keiselim's imaginary. Everything lives within the language of his poetic expressions, and Elizabeth Polli translates them, so that Keiselim can speak to us twice over. Ana Merino -Like Water is not only a collection of haiku, it is a personal and intimate look, from an Western perspective, to the Japanese world, to the mono no aware concept, and to the respect for Nature. And already just with that, for creating that intimacy with the reader and for painting for us images that transport us to our Japan, it deserves all our respect.
