Translated into English from the third French edition of 1619, and Edited With Notes by Albert Gray, Assisted by H.C.P. Bell. Works Issued by the Hakluyt Society series No. LXXVI & LXXVII. The Hakluyt Society was established in 1846 for the purpose of printing rare or unpublished voyages, travels and naval expeditions by those who first explored these unknown and distant regions. The majority of these illustrate the history of the great age of discovery which forms the foundation of modern history. Publications were distributed only to members of the Society. Published in three Volumes (Volume I, Volume II Part I & Volume II Part II). Volume I and Volume II Part I only. Volume I contains Introduction, Chronology of Pyrard's Voyage, & Voyage: Part the First (st. Malo to Cape of Good Hope, Comorro Islands, Maldives, Málé, Calecut, etc.). Vol I - lviii, 452 pp. Frontispiece (loose), & 10 illustrations in text & Folding map of the Maldives at rear. Volume II Part I contains Voyage: Part the Second (Goa, Ceylon, Malaca, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Bali, Ormuz etc.) Vol II, Part I - xlvii, 287 pp. Frontispiece, & 4 other plates & 2 illustrations in text. Both Vols - Vol II only some spots of foxing on prelims, otherwise only occasional spots of foxing in text. Bindings tight. Many pages unopened. Yellow eps. Bound in blue cloth boards of the Hakluyt Society with gilt lettering on spines. Gilt vignette of the sailing ship 'Victoria' on front covers. Blindstamp decoration on boards. Vol I - boards faded and small nick in cloth on front board. Foxing on spine. Corners lightly rubbed. Vol II - boards bright but spine somewhat darkened. Overall condition VG. Seller Inventory # 6380
