An unframed, maril (marbled inlaid leather) painting , by English designer bookbinder Philip Smith, produced in 1989. Size of the painting panel: 7 ¼ in. x 8 ¼ in., which has been mounted (pasted) on a sheet of 10 ¾ in. x 11 ¾ in., white cardboard; numbered in pencil in lower left under the panel: No. 23, and with: Maril Patent No. 1288939, in red ink on back of the cardboard sheet. A scene of a flame-spouting volcano among rocky islands with sea and sky; created by Philip Smith, by a special collage technique, onlaying various types & colors of leathers to form a design. Sheet of mounting cardboard shows some light, age-related tanning, painting is in fine condition, and suitable for framing. The scan shows the painting. Seller Inventory # ABE-421608790
